The Bluff City Backsliders are from Memphis and feel a particular affection for all kinds of tunes that have their music roots in the "pre-World War II era". This 8-piece band plays authentic barrelhouse blues, jugband stuff, old-time country, early New Orleans jazz, avant-garde mountain music and bluegrass. Their musical area stretches out from Memphis to the Appalachians, reaching out to New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta, and sometimes it feels like they're actually visiting all of these places at the same time.

As a result they released a full cd with brilliant versions of classics and traditional music like "Pony Blues", "Saint James Infirmary", "Boll Weevil Blues", "Step It Up And Go" and kinky songs like "Let Me Play With Yo' Yo-Yo", "All Around Man" and "Stay On The Right Side, Sister".

These gentlemen play an extensive arsenal of instruments, like a good rootsy jugband should do: slide, lapsteel, mandolin, kazoo, barrelhouse piano, fiddle, banjo...

De Bluff City Backsliders zijn afkomstig uit Memphis en hebben een voorliefde voor allerlei rootsmuziekjes uit de "pre world war II era".
