Blues-boogie pianist Big Joe Duskin enjoys the same senior status in his hometown of Cincinnati that Sunnyland Slim held in Chicago. The voices are somewhat similar, too, although Slim in his robust years was a more accomplished pianist than Duskin.
These 16 tracks represent a recording comeback for Duskin, who had not released a new disc for a decade until he recorded these sessions in a Cincinnati church. The 14 well-chosen covers include songs by Roosevelt Sykes, Big Bill Broonzy and Memphis Slim.
Those who are unfamiliar with Duskin's past pairings with British rockers will find Peter Frampton an unlikely guest artist, but the British guitarist has been spending a lot of time in Duskin's hometown to be close to his wife's family, and struck up a friendship with Duskin.
