Yellow Dog has also released another high-quality album with The Bo-Keys' The Royal Sessions. The band consists of seasoned Memphis soul musicians (guitarist Skip Pitts, who played the memorable wah-wah riff on "Theme From Shaft," keyboardist Ronnie Williams, and drummer Willie Hall, an alumnus of The Blues Brothers band) who blend soul/funk instrumentals with gritty vocal cuts that bring the Memphis soul stew back to a simmer in the 21st century. The CD, recorded at Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios in Memphis, even adds tastes of hip-hop to its musical mix . . . |
