The next time I'm asked where all the soul has gone, I'll have an answer: Memphis. That is where this soul-jazz-funk band hails from and they have impressed me with their incredible sound. It's like a throwback to funky instrumentals from the 1970s but also sounds contemporary. When I put their CD The Royal Sessions on at home the first time, the entire family was dancing around the house. It almost gave my wife rhythm! I encourage you to read more about the band, which consists of younger guys as well as Stax veterans, at their label's site. I read all of the reviews from publications and agree with them.
