Glowing with a well-earned sobriety, the guitarist, brother of the late legendary pianist Phineas Newborn Jr., leads his backing group with such style and finesse it might be easy to miss the musical depth. But it's there, in warm tones of sonic clarity, and the photo on the back cover of of Newborn's big hollow body plugged into a Fender amp says it all: this disc is a guitar-player's dream, one that has been a long time coming and won't soon be forgotten.
