This 8 track instrumental album is predominately a jazz album but there are a couple of more bluesy tracks that highlight 70 year old Calvin's blues heritage, in that he assisted BB King on his early recordings at Sam Phillips Sun Studios in the early 50's. This is a wonderful relaxing album and ideal to "chill out" to late at night, the band work together well and the clean sound recording provides a throw back to the 50's. This album was recorded during 2004 at Sam Phillips studio in Memphis and besides guitarist Newborn, his supporting band come with an excellent pedigree in Jazz & Blues and include; Charlie Wood (organ), Scott Thomson (trumpet), Herman Green (Sax/Flute) and Donald Brown (Piano). This album makes a refreshing change from the sounds churned out by the Blues/ Rock brigade and is definitely an album to "sit back" and listen to, amongst other things you can appreciate the deft "blues chops" that Calvin throws in. Jazz/Blues has just gained a new believer!
