Lance Looper
Australian export Fiona Boyes is an unsuspecting blues virtuoso. Sexy and blond, she can also pick the blues like nobody’s business. She’s been collecting awards since her solo debut in 2000 and by all accounts Lucky 13 only reinforces her reputation as the most heralded female blues musician on the scene. Packed with tunes sure to crack a smile, this record shows off Boyes’ talent, as well as her sense of humor. I particularly like “Chicken Wants Corn” and “High Cotton”. And while it wasn’t one of my favorite cuts, I have to recognize the great song title “Pigmeat Lover.”
