    Yellow Dog Records: September 2005

Free Download from Chris Cotton

Chris Cotton wrote and recorded a new song in response to the tragedy caused by Hurricane Katrina. He writes:

"The song above is a brand new song that I recorded September 26th, 2005 at Jory's place in Fairfax, CA. He was good enough to give me an hour of his time for this project. Please take a look at his website.

This tune I began writing the last week of aug.(thanks oma) right before Katrina had her way with the gulf Coast and it didn't take much to make "What Would You Do" into the song that it needed to be.

The flooding in NOLA and the people who were too poor or too infirm to escape suffered far too much. The government is to blame for 100% of the problem getting in there to help people. They have forgotten what the fundumental purpose of their jobs are: to protect American people.

I decided to just record the song and let people have it to listen to. This is not for charity or for profit or for anything other than listening to. Enjoy!"

Mary Flower's Bywater Dance released

Yellow Dog Records continues to reshape American roots music with the release of Bywater Dance, folk-blues guitar virtuoso Mary Flower's dynamically eclectic collaboration with some of New Orleans' finest musicians.

The album also serves as a reminder of the vibrancy of the musical heritage of New Orleans, and we hope that the album can contribute to a national resolve that those traditions not be diminished. We'll be donating a portion of profits from the album to charities related to supporting New Orleans musicians and rebuilding NOLA music heritage.

Update 01/06: The album has just charted for the third straight month on the Living Blues radio chart, and is in its 14th week of charting on the Roots Music Report radio chart! The track "Last Kind Word Blues" is featured on the CD Sampler in the current issue (Dec 05 - Jan 06) of Blues Revue Magazine.
