The Claudettes’ DANCE SCANDAL unleashed

It’s release day for The Claudettes‘ head-spinning new DANCE SCANDAL AT THE GYMNASIUM! Here are some of our favorite raves and reviews so far:

“Boasts punk spirit, earworm melodies, and a neo-retro sound that’s loaded with appeal…” —The Second Disc

“With elements of blues, soul, punk, and flat out noise, the quartet have something truly unique that you have to hear to understand — even if it only succeeds to confuse you more.” —Girl Underground Music

“[The band’s new lineup] has only made The Claudettes’ distinct and idiosyncratic blend — punk, blues, R&B, rockabilly, some jazz — more potent.” —Billboard

“Every song on the album gives me a jumpstart, I hear so many levels of what I consider amazing creativity that it is hard to dissect… this album will end up on a very special list at the end of the year.” —No Depression

Make sure you are firmly situated with three points of contact with the ground, then take a deep breath and give the album a listen.  Let us know what you think!

Another Independent Music Award for The Claudettes

Independent Music Awards nomineeLast February, we released an EP of the audio from The Claudettes’ early-2017 video session in Johnny Iguana’s piano room. This was a special session, one of the band’s personal favorites. The intimate tracks on Pull Closer to Me: Live in the Piano Room capture mallets-and-brushes performances of Claudettes songs and classics by Pink Floyd, Ruby & the Romantics, T. Rex and the Sundays.

We’re pleased to announce that the set has been nominated by the Independent Music Awards for Live EP of the year!  This is the 16th year of the IMAs, and a Yellow Dog Records release has been recognized in 10 of those years — including nods for The Claudettes’ previous two albums, Infernal Piano Plot… HATCHED! and NO HOTEL.  Does that qualify them for a hat trick?

When Pull Closer to Me was released, we described it as “the gentle side” of this very dynamic band. We said that three of this EP’s songs would “come out in VERY different form” on their upcoming electric album.  In just a matter of weeks, those electric versions are coming, along with nine other tracks that present “the wild side” of The Claudettes, as captured in throwback analog fashion by Grammy-winning Black Keys producer Mark Neill.  Prepare yourself for a DANCE SCANDAL AT THE GYMNASIUM!, landing on March 23!

The Claudettes – Embroiled in new scandal!

Don’t look now, but the Claudettes have been implicated in a Dance Scandal at the Gymnasium! That’s the title of the band’s thoroughly untamed new album, their fourth release (and third full-length) on Yellow Dog Records. The Claudettes have self-produced thus far, but this time they accepted Mark Neill’s invitation to come down to his storied Soil of the South studio in Valdosta, GA. Mark won a Grammy as producer of the Black Keys’ biggest album, “Brothers,” and has helmed acclaimed releases by Paladins, Los Straitjackets, Old 97’s, J.D. McPherson and many more.

Dance Scandal is rootsy like the Cramps and Violent Femmes were rootsy — that is to say, this is a “Roots Gone Wild” affair, anchored in blues, soul and jazz but punked-out, fuzzed-out… a knockout… listen and pre-order HERE!
